There are a number of layered street style looks that have caught our eye lately and winter is the perfect time to try and recreate these bundled up outfits. When the temperature drops you’ll often find yourself piling on the layers. However, sometimes all those layers can end up looking more ‘bag lady’ than ‘off-duty cool.’ The following ladies seem to have mastered the art of the layered look quite well. Check out these layered street style looks you might want to recreate in winter.
1 Off-Duty Layers
Putting together a casual off-duty outfit doesn’t have to be a drama. This outfit was captured by ELLE Magazine’s street style photographers and is the perfect example of how to put together everyday layered street style looks. A khaki trench coat, knitted cardigan, and denim jacket are layered over a yellow top and skinny jeans. Long boots are a practical addition and the headscarf adds a playful touch to the overall look.

2 Layered Staples
Lina was photographed by Suzanne Middlemass layering a range of wardrobe staples to create a cool and casual off-duty look. She wears a white top and skinny jeans underneath a long grey cardigan and leather jacket, and chunky black scarf. A slouchy beanie, tan tote bag, and lace-up combat boots complete the look. You could easily try and recreate a similar outfit with pieces from your own wardrobe.
3 Textured Layers
Layered outfits are perfect for experimenting with different textures. Here, Lucy was photographed by Dvora for UK Vogue. She wears some statement print pants from Zara and layered knits under a shaggy fur-effect coat. A neutral scarf and beanie add some extra coziness to the outfit and the wedge sneakers add a sport-luxe edge.
4 Layered Knits
There’s nothing quite like bundling up in your favourite knitwear during winter. We spotted this outfit on the Stylesight blog. A spotty knit sweater looks even cozier when worn underneath a chunky knit cardigan. A collared denim shirt worn under the sweater contrasts the knitwear nicely and the colourful sneakers add a playful touch to the outfit.
5 Mix and Match Layers
There are many different patterns and textures in this outfit we spotted on Fabsugar, but they all work together to create a tailored, menswear-inspired look. The textured pants have a metallic sheen to them and are nicely contrasted by a bright blue top and grey patterned coat. A bow scarf, burgundy socks, and monochrome brogues definitely add to the Dandy feel of this outfit.
6 Layered Coats
Jodie was snapped by Jacob Pritchard in this layered look. She wears a statement fur-collared coat over another grey coat and with a plaid shirt and grey skinny jeans. Ankle boots and a stylish fedora complete this layered daytime look.
7 Black on Black Layers
Here, Magda layers an all-black outfit. She was photographed by Dvora for Vogue wearing a black Zara coat over a draped top and flowing vintage skirt. She also wears black tights underneath, for extra warmth, and tan ankle boots.
8 Unexpected Layers
This outfit we spotted on Stylecaster is a great example of how to put together a polished layered look. The collared shirt, tweed trousers, camel coat, and nude pumps are perfect examples of prim and proper dressing. However, the leather jacket is an inspired, unexpected touch that adds a certain edge to the outfit.
9 Muted Layers
Wear your skirts in winter by popping on a pair of tights underneath. This pleated skirt looks all sorts of warm teamed with black tights, a black sweater, leather jacket, and fringed scarf. The snake-effect handbag and studded boots add some quirky detail to the entire look.
These are just some layered street style looks to take inspiration from in winter. Adding some extra layers can be as simple as popping on a scarf or as tricky as wearing multiple jackets at a time! What are your best tips for layering an outfit?
